Abstract: This paper presents an experimental and numerical study aimed at investigating the interfacial behaviour of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) strips mechanically fastened (MF) to concrete elements. The results of a series of pull-out tests carried out at the Laboratory of Structures of the University of Salerno on FRP laminates mechanically fastened to concrete blocks are reported in the first part of the paper. Then, the paper presents the formulation of a 1D FE model for simulating the behaviour of RC beams externally strengthened by MF-FRP laminates. The results of the direct shear tests on FRP mechanically fastened on concrete prisms are employed for calibrating a realistic bearing-stress-interface-slip law describing the behaviour of the fasteners. Moreover, well-established stress-strain relationships are considered for simulating the response of the other structural materials. Finally, the proposed model is validated by comparing the numerical simulation with the results of some experimental tests already available in the scientific literature.
