Abstract: The mechanism of Warm mix asphalt is to use some additives or technologies to modify the rheological behavior of asphalt binders, and thus improve the workability of the mixture at lower temperatures. Viscosity test and dynamic shear rheometer test are conducted for the investigation of rheological characteristics of warm mix asphalt additive modified asphalt binders in this paper. Sasobit is employed as modifiers for asphalt binders, with a concentration range from 0 to 10% by weight of the asphalt. The results of the investigation indicate that the concentration played an important role in determination of the binder properties. Effects of Sasobit on the viscosity of binders are increased as concentrations increases below about 90℃, but decreased as concentrations increases beyond 100℃, which is a positive sign for using as warm mix asphalt additive. Sasobit modified binders are more sensitive cracking and had more excellent rutting resistance properties at service temperatures compared with original bitumen. Based on the test results, its special rheological characteristics enable it to be used as warm mix asphalt additive.
