Abstract: Plate ballastless track is an advanced track structure in high speed railway. Cement asphalt mortar (CA mortar) is the key component in the structure of plate ballastless track and serves as the elastic shock-absorber. In this paper, CA mortars with two different asphalt emulsion respectively were compared with cement mortar without asphalt emulsion in hydration process, compressive strength, microstructure and hydrated products chemical compositions. Results showed that the temperature peak, the exothermic rate peak and the hydration heat in CA mortar were lower than cement mortar, at the same time, compressive strength of CA mortar was significantly lower than cement mortar. In addition, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersion (EDS) analysis indicated that asphalt emulsion slowed down cement hydration rate, but didn’t change the chemical composition of hydrated products.
