Abstract: In this paper results from a by STW funded research project ‘spalling of concrete due to fire exposure’, which at the present is ongoing in the Netherlands, are presented. The project is a joint research project between Eindhoven University of Technology and Delft University of Technology and is aimed at developing an integral spalling model which could be used for the assessment of the spalling sensitivity of concrete elements. In this paper two different models are presented which are based on a fracture mechanics approach and on determining the pore pressure development respectively. The paper further provides insight into the theoretical framework of the different models presented including some results. Finally, a possible coupling between both models is described.
