Abstract: This workshop is concerned with a form of internal sulfate attack, in which there is no
excess sulfate either from the environment, from contaminated aggregates or from
oversulfated cement - i.e. the overall sulfate content of the concrete lies within normal limits. One of the main conclusions of this workshop is that such ISA is only possible when the concrete has experienced elevated temperatures during curing. Therefore it should probably be known as heat induced internal sulfate attack. However for the sake of coherence with past terminology the term DEF is widely used throughout the text.
