Abstract: A SHCC that can be simply hand-mixed in small batches at a job site was evaluated with regard to its fresh properties immediately after mixing, mechanical performance after hardening, and air permeability, in relation to mixing methods. The workability, compressive strength, and bond strength of the SHCC hand-mixed for 2.5 min were comparable to those of the SHCC made in a mixer. The flexural strength and tensile strength of the former were around 90% of the latter, and the ultimate tensile strain of the former reached approximately 2%, though it was around 60% of the latter. The air permeability of the hand-mixed SHCC scattered more widely than the SHCC made in a mixer, but an increase in the hand mixing time led to smaller air permeability with a smaller scatter.
