Abstract: In this paper, the Authors present the experimental results obtained by using stabilized bottom ashes from incinerators in unbound and cement-bound materials for subgrades and foundations. Ashes were used in addition to a certain amount of particles composing the aggregate skeleton of the tested materials.

Laboratory tests were carried out in order to define for each material both a reference dosage, leading to acceptable volumetric and mechanical properties from a road construction point of view, and the environmental compatibility, by means of leaching tests.

The results obtained suggested that the stabilized bottom ashes satisfy the environmental Italian law for the reuse of not dangerous materials, but can significantly affect the stress-strain behaviour of the final materials.
