Abstract: Thin aggregates coming from dredging obtained during construction of Sant Carles de la Rápita harbour in Tarragona at the Mediterranean Sea have been studied and applied in the execution of an experimental section of concrete pavement located inside the project area. Environmental characterisation of the sand and as an adequate component for concrete has been made throughout physical, chemical and biological analysis.

The concrete was mixed in a ready mix plant and the recycled material was considered as corrective sand suitable for pumped concrete. The experimental in situ section included conventional concrete, concrete including material from dredging and reinforced concrete using polymeric structural fibres in order to avoid risk of corrosion.
Special care was taken particularly in shrinkage control in an area exposed to high insolation, temperature and wind, resulting in a satisfactory experience of re-use at the project itself.
