Abstract: A great challenge in the Brazilian cities is the access to the housing with minimum standard of habitability to the majority of the population, compromising the quality of life. The generation and disposal of the solid residues is the another problem, being one of these residues, used tires, causing serious environment problems. The studies search a technological solution for the problem of the housing including habitability and economy. This work considered a modular concrete blocks production incorporating scraps of tires, using PET bottles and wood in the molds. In carried studies, rates of CCRP10% CCRP15% and CCRP20% attended ABNT (NBR 6136/1994). The modulated blocks were adopted to design a social housing. An improvement in packing of concrete blocks can reduce cement consumption, which translates into reduction of CO2 emissions. Moreover, the mechanical production of concrete blocks will also reduce the cement consumption, expressively reducing the environmental load of the product. Therefore, an initiative in this area would be ecologically appropriate.
