Abstract: The existing construction waste recycling technologies and standards have been long applied in construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling, but it is essentially focused on the production and use of coarse recycled aggregates. Very few papers focus on the production of recycled sand, although the fraction below 4.8 mm represents around 40 to 60% (in mass) of the Brazilian waste and it is usually downcycled as road sub-base or disposed in landfills. The aim is to summarize the technological characterization results of the fine fraction from different sources, composition and comminution conditions. This research is motivated given the increase in transportation distances of natural sand and in price, the exhaustions of reserves and depletion of landfills. The results showed new perspectives to increase recycling rates and application of sand produced from C&D wastes.
