Abstract:
Concrete overlays are a rapidly growing sector in the pavement construction industry. They provide an effective, affordable and more sustainable approach to rehabilitation of existing roadways of all types because they make use of the infrastructure already in place. Many millions of square feet of overlays have been placed around the USA over the last few years, despite the economic downturn. This paper discusses the benefits of using concrete overlays for pavement rehabilitation, will provide information on how they should be designed and built, and describe examples of recent and long lasting applications.
