The use of a non-linear analysis in the safety verification of reinforced concrete columns is the topic of the paper. A safety format based on the mean values of the material properties and a global resistance factor is presented. The global resistance factor is derived from the distribution of the failure load, using a probabilistic approach. The effect of the slenderness on the global resistance factor is investigated by a parametric analysis.
