Abstract: This paper will describe a procedure for simulating the distribution of fibres and their orientation during the flow of self-compacting concrete (SCC) containing short steel fibres using the smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) mesh-less approach. It will then introduce a fibre orientation factor consistent with these three-dimensional simulations and describe how it can be easily determined from image analysis data on cut sections of cured SCC members.
