Abstract: Recycling is certainly one of the most important drivers for the industry eco-efficiency. Waste can be re-introduced as secondary raw materials into the built environment reducing environmental burdens. For each recycling process, the perceived value of a recycled product and the implementation of a like-closed cycle production are time demanding. Dissemination of recycling technological advances as presented and discussed in the Proceedings of the “III Progress of Recycling in the Built Environment” is really important to increase the efficient use of resources in our society.

Despite this promising recycling scenario, the amount of generated industrial waste can never satisfied the demand of raw materials of modern society. Scarcity of waste has been experienced yet in some recycling sectors, even in a like-closed cycled society. Recycling has a clear limit and also plainly unable to solve many of our environmental society paradigms. In current society, eco-efficiency studies are still a demand, continuously investigated as in these conference proceedings.

These proceedings present to readers a good overview about the progress of recycling in the built environment in these last five years (2009-2015). Enjoy your reading.
