Abstract: This paper focuses on the influence of the concrete cover on the strength of confined compressed columns made of fiber reinforced concrete. A mechanical model has been developed based on the ultimate state conditions of concrete core, concrete cover and transverse steel. The cases of plain concrete and fiber reinforced concrete are analysed and focus on the beneficial effects due to the presence of fibers. The model has been verified against data obtained from concentric compressive tests on concrete specimens reinforced with transverse steel and fibers.
