Abstract: This paper presents the mechanical behavior of expansion anchors embedded in high performance concrete, with and without steel microfibers, subjected to tensile tests. Compressive strength, addition of fibers and embedment length were adopted as major factors. In particular, the failure mode was studied with reference to the embedment length and to fibers added to the matrix (0-1%).
The embedment length influences the results both in terms of strength and ductility, while fibers strongly affect only the post-peak behavior and the failure pattern. A comparison between the results and the strength given by the producer for a normal concrete shows that high-performance concrete leads to a significant increase of the strength. The influence of the major factors on the results, in terms of strength, stiffness, failure mode and failure pattern, is also discussed. Finally, a comparison between standard equations and experimental results is provided.
