Abstract: Researches on recycling of concrete waste coming from civil construction sites have been made
with the goal of obtaining recycled aggregate to be used in the preparation of concrete, blocks and sub-grade
of thoroughfares. Utilizing concrete residue require knowledge about its behavior in the long
term under the effects of aggressive agents, such as the acid rain that occurs in urban and
industrialized centers. Today, the recycling of residues is needed for preservation of the environment,
but also for the possibility of cost reduction and predicting the performance of the new recycled
product in the long term. Recycled aggregate obtained through the crushing of concrete discarded in
building construction are different from source to source, showing different properties. Several
researches have demonstrated the technical and economical benefits of its utilization in obtaining
structural or non-structural concrete. Therefore, the parameter control of hard concrete's properties
become specially important. In this work, petrographic techniques were employed in the analysis of
the concrete obtained with recycled aggregate.
