Abstract: The weatherability of polymeric building materials are affected by ultraviolet ray, temperature, moisture etc... In some cases, they influenced synergistically, so that it is very difficult to evaluate the exposure environment quantitatively. In order to evaluate the synergistic effect of exposed conditions, polyethylene, polycarbonate and poly(ethylene terephthalate) films are exposed in outdoors as reference materials. These specimens are collected and replaced with new ones each month. These short-term exposure tests were repeated more than 1 year in several places in Japan. The results of these tests were analyzed by multiple regression analysis, which uses ultraviolet radiation, ambient temperature, and humidity as a factor and by Koike & Tanaka's model, which is able to calculate the synergistic effect of ultraviolet radiation and ambient temperature. From these analyses, it is recognized that the values of reference materials could express the synergistic effect of ultraviolet radiation and temperature so that it shall be adopted as a new concept of exposure stage.
