Abstract: Compressive strength of concrete and mortar incorporating rice husk ash (RHA) depends on their water-cementitious materials ratio, RHA contents, and physical properties of RHA. The strength is also affected by vibrating compaction because of the high viscosity of fresh mortar incorporating RHA. This paper describes relationships between air contents of fresh mortar specimens made by changing two parameters; vibrating time and frequency, and the viscosity of the fresh mortars. Compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the mortars are also examined. Optimum vibrating time and frequency for RHA mortars in order to obtain high compressive strength and stable modulus of elasticity are investigated. The effectiveness of incorporating the RHA on the compressive strength of the mortars is quantitatively evaluated by using an effective coefficient; k-value.
