Abstract: This paper reports the behaviour of CFDST short columns under axial compression.Concrete filled double skin tubular (CFDST) members consist of two concentric tubes with concrete sandwiched between them. These members are characterized by their higher stiffness, greater ductility and lighter weight. The FEM package ANSYS 14.5 was used for the analysis.Non-linear behaviour of concrete filled steel tubes(CFST) and concrete filled double skin steel tubes (CFDST) under axial compression have been compared in this study.SHELL181 elements were adopted for the steel tubes and concrete was modelled using the solid element SOLID65.The specimens were loaded using step by step load incrementing procedure to simulate the axial compression. Load carrying capacities, the stress and strain variation along the height of the specimen are illustrated for both CFST and CFDST specimens.
