Abstract: Self-compacting concrete(SCC) under its own gravity, able to flow, dense, even in the presence of dense reinforcement can completely fill the template, to obtain good homogeneity of, be able to achieve super high, narrow gap structure of a one-time shape. Significant amount of work has been carried out on self-compacting concrete all over the world. In countries like Japan, Sweden, Thailand, UK etc., the knowledge of SCC has moved from domain of research to application. China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd (CGP) intends to adopt the technology of SCC for various structures in nuclear power plants, especially for those having congested reinforcement. This paper summarized the efforts on the SCC mixtures design, small-scale mock-ups and real application of SCC at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant China-Guangdong Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd Company (CGP). Practical casting was performed on the small-scale mock-ups of secure shell and a section wall of Balance of Plant (BOP) to simulate the casting of SCC in the nuclear power plant. The properties of fresh concrete, temperature development in SCC and formwork lateral pressure were monitored. Further, the surface and cross-section of the hardened SCC were also investigated. The derived results can provide onsite training in SCC construction for the crews that will place the actual modular walls of nuclear power projects.
