Abstract: The slab ballastless track of high speed railway is a “sandwich structure”, which is composed of track slab, filling layer and roadbed from top to bottom layer. Because mechanical vibration cannot be used when placing concrete, self-compacting concrete must be used to form a dense filling layer under only by self-weight force. This paper discusses the relationships between the workability parameters, slump flow and T50 of fresh SCC and pouring quality of filling layer. Especially, the relationship between workability parameters and the air bubble stability of fresh SCC is investigated by experiments, in order to guarantee a good bond and little air bubble layer in the interface zone between filler layer and track slab.
Results indicate that the air bubble stability is remarkably affected by the viscosity of fresh mixture. The lower the plastic viscosity, the larger the slump flow and the worse the air bubble stability of mixture and therefore the worse the pouring quality. SCC with the slump flow of 620 mm-660 mm and T50 of 3s-7s have a good air bubble stability and can guarantee adequate pouring quality, which results in a good bond between track slab and filling layer.
