Abstract: In this research, a novel admixture, named as concrete temperature reducing agent (TRA) was used to control the rate of cement hydration. The effects of TRA on the hydration of cement under isothermal and adiabatic conditions were investigated by isothermal calorimeter and adiabatic temperature rise tester. The effects of TRA on phase composition of the cement paste during hydration were determined by XRD and the results indicated that the TRA significantly reduced the hydration of C3S and the formation of Ca(OH)2 in early ages. The
monitor results of temperature histories in 400×400×400mm concrete cubes insulated by extruded polystyrene board were reduced by 38% about 10.4℃ by addition of 0.3% TRA.
Additionally, the TRA had no negative effect on the long-term strength of concrete.
