Abstract: Different amounts of lime mud were incorporated in concrete mixes of different targeted strengths. Experiments were carried out to assess the effect of lime mud on the workability and the compressive strength of the concrete materials at the age of 1, 7 or 28 days. The results showed that the concrete mixtures containing lime mud as 10%, 20%, or 30% of total mass of fine aggregate still exhibited acceptable workability. It was also indicated that the lime mud
had little influence on the 1-day strength of the concrete specimens. However, the usage of lime mud as part of fine aggregate led to increase in 7-day and 28-day strengths of the concrete specimens with relatively low cement content. The maximum strength gain was achieved with the lime mud taking up of 10% by mass of the total fine aggregate. Incorporation of lime mud in concrete with higher cement content reduced the later day strength of the specimens. This
study not only provided a feasible solution to disposing green mud but also reduced the economic cost and environmental impact of concrete production.
