Abstract: Engineered Cementitious Composite˄ECC˅is composed of short Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) fiber, Portland cement, fine sand, and water. The key of producing ECC is to distribute the fiber uniformly in the matrix. A new mixer was developed to produce larger amount of ECC. The flow of fresh ECC was tested to study the effects of mixing sequence and time on uniformity
and workability of ECC. The uniaxial tensile and four point bending tests were performed to evaluate the ductility. Results showed that the tensile strain was more than 3.5%. For the four point bending test, the deflection at middle point was more than 25 mm and could reach 40 mm. Cracks appear evenly at around 1mm spacing during the loading process. The crack width was
65 μm. The good workability and strain hardening performances of ECC showed that the newly developed mixer can be used to produce larger amount of ECC.
