Abstract: In order to study the water resistance of magnesium phosphate cement, magnesium phosphate based (MPC) mortar and silicate - magnesium phosphate mortar based mortar were prepared. The specimens were soaked in water for compressive strength, flexural strength and microstructure measurements. The results show that, the strength of the two kinds of cement mortar declined at varying degrees after soaking in water. The strength retention (curing for 28days) of MPC and composite MPC mortar soaked in water were lower than that curing at standard environment. SEM results show that water can damage the struvite structure from MPC cement hydration products. However, the existence of calcium silicate hydrate in the composite MPC hydration products hinderes hydrolysis of the struvite.Water resistance of the composite MPC is better than MPC. The change of the PH value of the solution can affect the K struvite formation of the MPC based cement hydration products, leading to poor MPC cement mortar water resistance.
