Abstract: An innovative composite structure, named concrete-filled RPC tube (CFRT), was presented in the paper. In this system, high-strength stirrups were arranged in the prefabricated reactive power concrete (RPC) tube and then concrete was cast in the RPC tube. Total 15 large-scale columns were conducted axial compression test, included nine CRRT specimens, three high-strength stirrups confined concrete (SCC) specimens and three RPC tubes. Composite action between RPC tube and internal concrete and the influences of spiral stirrup spacing on the compressive performance of CFRT columns were investigate. The results show that RPC tube in the composite column can carry considerable axial load directly under the peak load. The axial carrying capacity of CFRT is higher than the sum of RPC hollow tube and SCC and this composite system has realized the super-superposition effect. Compressive properties of CFRT columns improve as the stirrup ratio increases.
