Abstract: To improve the percentage of recycled waste is a vital goal of our society, in order to reduce
pollution and preserve resources. The European VEEP project intends to give a contribution
to the circular economy, in the area of building construction.
The main objective is to eco-design, develop and demonstrate a series of new cost-effective
technological solutions for the massive retrofitting of our built environment, aiming at cost-
effectively reducing building energy consumption. These new technological solutions will
lead to novel closed-loop circular approaches for C&DW recycling into novel multilayer
Precast Concrete Elements PCEs (for both new buildings and refurbishment) incorporating
new green concretes as well as superinsulation material. To face this challenge, the following
scientific/technological, economic, environmental and social goals are addressed:
• To develop new advanced recycling technologies for the recovery of resources;
• To optimize new green concretes and cost-effective sustainable aerogels containing, at
least, 75% by weight of upgraded C&DW recycled materials;
• To eco-design and develop two novel cost-effective and energy efficient PCEs;
• To demonstrate the potential economic and environmental profit;
• To increase awareness and involvement within the whole social chain;
CO2 savings, energy savings, and higher resource efficiency will ultimately contribute to a
resource-efficient and climate change resilient economy.
