Abstract: The Workshop IRWRMC18 and the Round Robin Test RRT "Comparison of Concrete Rheometers: International Tests at the Artois University were organized on 28 to 30 May and 31 May 2018 on the rheology and tribology of concretes, respectively. These two events are part of the issues developed by RILEM and in particular within the framework of the actions carried out by the RILEM - TC MRP-266 Committee: Measuring Rheological Properties of Cement-
based Materials chaired by Dr Mohammed SONEBI from Queen’s University Belfast (UK).
This is not the first time that international researchers and laboratories have been investigating the rheology of cement-based materials since two other RRTs were organized:
- The first RRT at LCPC in Nantes (France) in 23-27 October 2001,
- The second RRT organized by NIST in Cleveland (USA) in 19-23 May 2003.
After 15 years, there was no RRT organized on this topic. However, during this period, the progress has been considerable, as much by the widening of the range of the new type concretes, the progress made by the new devices (new and up rheometers) and finally the way to analysis of the results.
The workshop was organized in 4 sessions on one day. The importance of the number of communications received showed the interest raised by this theme on rheology which is essential from the point of view of industrial applications. The technical and economic implications are considerable.
The workshop brought together 78 participants including 54 from the academic world and 24 industrialists who benefited from 22 communications. It is nice to note that researchers from around the world (Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, UK, India, Ireland, Italy, USA, etc.) have contributed to this important workshop. The participants were able to discuss recent and latest scientific knowledge on the rheology of concrete.
Special thanks go to Professor K. H. Khayat from the University of Missouri, whose many works are published in this area of rheology of concrete.
It should be noted the participation of several manufacturers such as Botte Foundations, Roquette SA, Eqiom, Soletanche Bachy, Holcim-Lafarge, Saint Gobain, Léon Grosse, Schleibinger, etc.
Some papers have been selected to be published in the journal of the French Rheology Group Rheology.
We would like also thank and acknowledge many sponsors of these two events: the National Federation of Public Works, EQIOM, Boot Foundations, Structure & Réhabilitation, the French Group of Rheology, Artois Comm, the University of Artois and LGCgE Lille Nord de France.
