Abstract: This work reports an experimental investigation employing the squeeze flow test to assess the mixing efficiency of laboratory procedures for mortars. Several factory-produced Brazilian rendering mortars were prepared by three different mixing procedures and the fresh mortars samples were evaluated by flow-table test and by constant-speed squeeze flow test. Results clearly demonstrated that the procedures employing the mechanical mixer can provide more energy than manual mixing does; moreover, the use of a two-step water into powder addition method further enhanced the mixing efficiency when using the mechanical mixer, increasing flowability and repeatability of the produced mortars.
