Abstract: In Bangladesh, the availability of natural aggregates (like brick chips, stone chips) is depleting rapidly. If some of the waste materials are found suitable in construction practices, safe disposal of waste materials can be achieved and cost of construction can also be cut down. Therefore, this investigation was carried out to explore the possibility of utilization of steel slag in concrete as coarse and fine aggregate. The aggregates were tested for different physical and mechanical properties. Cylindrical concrete specimens (100 mm by 200 mm) were made with different W/C and sand to aggregate volume ratios. Brick aggregate was partially (50%) /fully (100%) replaced by steel slag and natural sand was partially replaced by fine steel slag at different portions of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. The concrete specimens were tested at 7, 28 and 90 days. Results show that the compressive strength of concrete increases by 50% partial replacement of brick chips by steel slag and also compressive strength increases by 30% partial replacement of natural sand by fine steel slag. Utilization of steel slag will help towards sustainable development of construction materials in Bangladesh.
