Abstract: In this study, the influence of the grade of calcined kaolinitic clays on the hydration of limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) containing 50% of clinker is investigated. Significant refinement of porosity is observed for blends compared with PC. A limit porosity refinement is reached, from which the porosity does not get further refined. This limit is reached earlier for blends with high metakaolin content. This limit fits well with the slowing down of the clinker hydration, whereas the reaction of metakaolin keeps occurring.
