Abstract: Nanocomposite from different organic polymers [Poly(vinyl alcohol (PVA) and Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)], and calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) were prepared by co-precipitation techniques at 60 °C, under nitrogen. Various polymer concentrations (0.05-0.75 g/g Ca salt) were used for the preparation of a series of C-S-H-polymer nanocomposite (C-S-HPN) materials. Synthetic C-S-H and C-S-HPN materials were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TG/DTG/DSC, 29Si and 13C MAS NMR spectroscopy, and SEM. XRD data showed a dependence of the extent of expansion for C-S-H layers as a function of polymers concentration. 29Si MAS NMR spectra suggest that the structures of synthetic C-S-H and C-S-HPN materials are related to that of tobermorite. SEM results exhibit significant differences in their structures depending on the concentration of the intercalated polymer.
