Abstract: The paper highlights the key role of nanotechnology to optimise the design and the development of the latest innovative concrete admixtures.
Nanotechnology is seen as a powerful tool to analyse, understand and create models of the various and complex interactions between the inorganic concrete materials and the chemical admixtures. The comprehension of the mechanism of actions ruling such interactions is considered the starting point to engineer new polymers built according to a precise molecular architecture in the nano scale to achieve in the end specific macroscopic performances.
Industrial concrete applications of the latest polymers based on that technology are then reported and discussed in the perspective of the new trends of the concrete industry.
