Abstract: Due to the coupled action of the external loads and environmental attacks, the mechanical behavior of the reinforced concrete (RC) elements is time-varying, especially when the reinforcements begin to corrode. For the purpose of safety or function change, those corrosion-damaged RC elements need to be rehabilitated and strengthened. During this rehabilitation process, concrete around the affected reinforcements was always broken out and all or part of the tension reinforcements were exposed and complete loss of bond between steel and concrete was obtained. Before the choose of the suitable measurements, it is necessary to evaluate the load capacity and failure mode of the corrosion damaged RC beam with unbonded length within part of the beam length. In the present paper, flexural and shear strength of this kind of RC beam are analytically predicted, respectively.Other possible failure modes are also considered to determine the final load capacity of the RC beam. Comparison between the model’s predictions with the test results published in the literature shows the validity of the proposed models.
