Abstract: The research work focused on the investigation of the mechanical properties of a developed Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRCC) material, the study of the fibre distribution of sections of specimens using an optical microscope, and finally the experimental study of the quality and the behaviour of this material in a highly demanding application, such as the impact resistance of structures. The research team is trying to tackle the crucial issues that should be addressed before UHPFRCCs could be widely implemented in applications such as defence structures, security enclosures, and toxic and nuclear waste containment vessels.
Specifically, the aim of this study is to present the results of an extended work on the experimental determination of the mechanical properties of a produced UHPFRCC, including compressive and flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity. Furthermore, the paper will present the experimental results on the static response of UHPFRCC slabs and also preliminary results on the impact resistance of similar specimens. Finally, it is also highlighted the importance of the even distribution of fibres on the mechanical performance of these materials.
