Abstract: The present paper proposes an approach for on-site repair and retrofitting of reinforced
concrete beams and masonry walls using textile reinforced concrete (TRC). The TRC system
consists of a fine grained cementitious binder and an alkali resistant glass textile as
reinforcement. The binder and textile combinations are designed in such a way that a ductile
failure is anticipated in the retrofitted system. An apparatus has been developed for providing
mechanical stretching to textiles, while casting the TRC system (Indian Patent application
2339DEL2015). This is based on the advantages realized by mechanically stretching of the
textiles before casting the TRC. By using the proposed apparatus, the practical difficulty of
placing more number of layers of textile within a particular thickness of TRC is avoided.
Better bonding between textile layers and the binder system is also ensured by the mechanical
stretching.
