Abstract: Cool elastomeric roof coatings have potential to influence energy consumption and thermal
comfort in warm climate zones. Cool Roof coatings have high solar reflectivity leading to
reduced absorption of heat and conduction to the building below. The temperature in the
rooms underneath the roof can be reduced and therefore air conditioning systems require less
energy. Cool roofs can be made by applying a liquid coating, a sheet membrane, or highly
reflective tiles or shingles. Our paper focuses on highly reflective liquid applied elastomeric
roof coating technology which also provides outstanding weather ability and excellent dirt
pick-up resistance. The investigations of cool roofs on the indoor temperature and energy
performance has been simulated considering specific building characteristics and climate
conditions. We will also share measured energy savings and thermal comfort data for cool
roofs with real case examples.
