Abstract: The paper will review the historical background in the development of UHPFRC, and describe
an extensive research program investigating the mechanical properties of ultra-high-performance
fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) with emphasis on early-age (setting) and matured
mechanical properties as affected by curing conditions, coarse aggregate, mineral admixtures,
placement characteristics, self-compacting properties, fiber type, specimen size, and strain-rate.
The paper will finally address the need for research to reduce the production cost of UHPFRC
and other potential means to promote a widespread use.
