Abstract: The mechanical properties of the functionally-graded fiber-reinforced concrete (FGFRC)
with coarse aggregates was investigated. The alumina ceramic balls with different sizes are
used as the coarse aggregates to prepare FGFRC with two and three layers. All the samples
are divided into two series; one of them is used for mechanical properties test, the other is to
test the interfacial bonding properties of coarse aggregate concrete with different diameters.
The results show that there was no obvious flaw in the interface formed by continuous casting
process. Compared with the large size aggregates, the small size aggregates results in the
increase of bending strength, but the compressive strength of FGFRC reduced significantly.
The mechanical performances of FGFRC are also influenced by the layer numbers. The
bending properties and compressive strength of the FGFRC with three-layer structure are both
at a lower level compared with that of the FGFRC with two-layer structure. FGFRC with the
two-layer structure overall shows excellent mechanical properties.
