Abstract: Additive manufacturing has become a hot topic in architecture field in recent years. The
process and materials of additive manufacturing technology in construction are discussed in
this paper. The two types of 3D printing processes (D-shape and Contour Crafting) are
introduced and compared. The printing material can be various binders such as Portland
cements, aluminate cements and alkali-activated materials. In this paper, Portland cement,
silica fume, slag powder, admixtures and fiber were used to prepare 3D printing concrete. The
printing of laboratory-scale specimens is achieved through a printing system with
three-dimensional motion device, screw extruder and nozzle. Some testing methods for fresh
and hardened properties of printing concrete were examined. Mortar fluidity suitable for 3D
printing was studied and suitable mortar proportions were found. The fiber reinforced 3D
printing concrete is anisotropic in terms of mechanical properties and the reason for this
phenomenon was analyzed.
