Abstract: Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a new type of building material with ultra-high
strength, high toughness, high durability, and good volume stability. It usually is widely used
in roads, bridges, and tunnels, et al. However, the expensive cost of RPC is the most
important reason for restricting that as a widely used engineering material. Especially, the
expenditure of steel fiber accounts for about 50% of the total cost. This paper aims to use the
scrap tire steel fiber to replace all the traditional copper-plated steel fiber to produce a cost-
effective RPC. At the same fiber dosage, the fluidity of RPC containing scrap tire steel fiber is
worse than that containing copper-plated steel fiber. Modified polycarboxylate based
superplasticizer effectively improves the fluidity of RPC containing scrap tire steel fiber and
guarantee mechanical properties. The prepared RPC sample has a fluidity of 183 mm, the 28
day flexural strength of 28.3 MPa, and the 28 day compressive strength of 196.3 MPa. Then,
we successfully used scrap tire steel fiber to prepare D400 RPC manhole cover according
with the demand of GBT 23858-2009 of China.
