Abstract: The paper proposed an ultra-high performance concrete-normal strength concrete
(UHPC-NSC) composite slab culvert structure with a span length of 8m. The structure with
higher load-carrying capacity and crack resistance can adapt to the larger span and the higher
filling height without obviously increasing the project cost. The inversed π or T-type UHPC
beam is employed as the template for casting the top-layer normal strength concrete, which
results in convenient and quick construction. The paper introduces the design details of the
composite slab culvert and implements a full scale model test and FEM to verify the
effectiveness of the composite structure in practical engineering. The study demonstrates that
the UHPC-NSC composite slab convert with a span length of 8m and a filling height of 2m
has outstanding load-carrying capacity. In its serviceability limit state, the crack width of the
structure can be limited in the ranges of 0.05mm, which has little effect on UHPC
permeability and accordingly steel fibre corrosion. The composite slab culvert with 8m span
length is now under construction.
