Abstract: From the surface to interior of concrete, there are gradients of relative humidity caused by the moisture diffusion and self-desiccation, which would affect the hydration process of cement and the water diffusion from internal curing materials to cement paste.
In this paper, the relative humidity and the hydration degree of paste at different distance from the drying surface of ordinary concrete and light weight concrete under one-dimensional drying condition were studied. The results showed that the relative humidity inside of concrete decreased with the increase of curing age, and it was higher within light weight concrete. When the distance from the drying surface was less than 5 cm, the higher the gradient from the environmental humidity, the faster the relative humidity reduced. In addition, the micro hardness of the cement paste in the interface area increased with the increase of distance from the drying surface. When the distance was longer than 10 cm, the influence of environmental humidity gradually reduced, especially before the age of 28 days. And the micro hardness didn’t show much.
