Abstract: Early age hydration kinetics of tricalcium silicate (C3S) is studied extensively because of its predominant effect in the early age hydration of ordinary Portland cement (OPC). This paper focuses on modelling the effect of mixing different particle size distributions (PSD) on the hydration kinetics in the early ages. Three different PSDs of alite were mixed in different proportions and isothermal calorimetry was carried out on those mixes. The experimental results were then used to validate recently developed densification and volumetric growth model (DVG) hypothesis. Microstructural modelling platform, CemRS were used to simulate the DVG model taking into account the PSDs of alite mixed. Simulation results shows that it was able to capture the effect of PSDs and their blends without the need to vary the simulation parameters.
