Abstract: Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is an innovative cement-based material with uniform and dense microstructures. However, lower water/binder (W/B) is insufficient for a complete hydration of a large amount of clinker materials, which not only increases cost, but
also is adverse to the sustainable development. From the point of consuming less cement, reasonable using of mineral admixtures is a feasible way. This paper provides a critical review of the effects of common mineral admixtures on workability, mechanical properties and microstructure of UHPC. Nano-mineral admixtures can compensate the delayed effect bringing with a large dosage of superplasticizer, accelerate cement hydration, improve microstructures and increase mechanical properties, mainly because of the nucleation and filling effects. Micro-mineral admixtures can promote particle size spectrum between cement(C) and silica fume (SF), therefore, improve the performance of UHPC from the
whole.
