Abstract: To idealize life cycle plans of civil infrastructures, assessments of the current state of civil infrastructures are crucially important. Such innovative or advanced NDTs as utilizing acoustical, electromagnetic and optical approaches have potentials to contribute to the assessment. However, there are so far, no decisive techniques to evaluate inside of structures properly. The authors have thus developed several advanced measurement methods using acoustic approaches. In the paper, the most advanced tomographic approach referred to as AE tomography without using identified excitations, leading to one-side access evaluation of large infrastructures, and intelligent impact acoustic system identifying self-locations with gyro compass and accelerometers as well as damage assessment with artificial intelligence namely AI will be introduced.
