Abstract: Non-uniformly distributed corrosion products will have different effects on predicting the time to corrosion-induced cracking. Corrosion layers at the steel/concrete interfaces of reinforced concrete specimens subjected to chloride ion ingress were observed and measured by SEM; corrosion area of steel bars on the longitudinal direction were observed by 3D scanning in this paper. A Gaussian function was used to model the distribution of the non-uniform corrosion on both horizontal and vertical section. The physical meaning of the parameters in the Gaussian model and the relationships among these parameters are discussed.
