Abstract: Croatia is relatively small in area, but has a strongly idented Adriatic coastline. A significant part of the developed road infrastructure is located in a distinctly Mediterranean but also in a distinctly continental climate. Both climates, Mediterranean and continental, directly influence the durability of concrete structures. The construction of reinforced concrete structures in Croatia was intensified in the second half of the 20th century, but, due to the lack of relevant legislation and know-how on the durability of RC structures, problems were noticed already after 15 years of service life. The paper overviews the durability of reinforced concrete structures in Croatia within road infrastructure and along the coast as well as the research into the area of material durability in reinforced concrete structures.
