Abstract: The use of low-alkalinity and low heat of hydration concrete is planned for the underground radioactive waste repository to build some massive components. Investigations lead to the designing of two ternary binders to respect the criteria linked to these structure concretes. For a better understanding of the performance of the additions in the concrete, there is a need of chemical knowledge to assess the reaction and interactions between the clinker and the pozzolanic additions. A multiphasic hydration model is proposed to take into account the different kinetic of each constituent. Key parameters associated with each single component are obtained from fitting with semi-adiabatic test obtained on binary binders composed by clinker and only one of the additions. The model is then used to simulate the ternary blend used in the low pH concrete. Indicators of hydration reaction development such as portlandite and non-evaporable water are measured and compared to the predictions of the model.
